    Essay on Farmer: Farmer is the person who produced food for our society. Farmers are important members of our society. They work hard to grow crops to provide us with food which is our basic need so they can be called the backbone of our society. Different countries celebrate “Farmers' Day” in different months of the year to pay tribute to all the farmers in the world.

    Introduction

    A farmer is a person whose occupation is to grow crops or to graze livestock and poultry or to engage in milk production. Some farmers have their own land but some do not have land so they have to work as laborers on other's land. Farming started from the Neolithic period. Agriculture probably started in the area which was called Fertile Crescent that includes Ancient Egypt, the Levant and Mesopotamia. Wheat and barley were the first crops grown by the people. Animal husbandry, which is the branch of agriculture, was started by domesticating dogs in East Asia around 15 thousand years ago.

    Types of Farmers

    By farmers we mean people who grow crops but there are different types of farmers like ranchers or graziers who raise grazing livestock, the dairy farmer who engages in milk production, the poultry farmer who raises chickens, ducks turkeys etc. for meat, eggs etc. The truck farmer or market farmer who raises a variety of vegetables. Some farmers grow flowers, some grows fruits 


    Importance of Farmer

    Farmers are important members of our society. They work hard to grow crops to provide us with food which is our basic need so they can be called the backbone of our society. Farmers live in villages and lead a simple life. They get drenched in the rain and burn in the sun to grow crops for us.  

    Agriculture plays an important role in reaching the high income status of a country. Farmers grow substantial crops by using advanced technology which ensures food security.

     Problems faced by the Farmers

    Farmers faced many difficulties like climate change due to global warming, soil erosion, drought, heavy rainfall, epidemic or war, pollution etc. Insects or pests also damage the crops and destroy ⅕ of the world’s total crops. The most deadly insects that destroy the crops are stem borer, bollworm, thrips, pod sucking bugs, rootborer etc. Since farmers use heavy machines they get injured. They also are bitten by dangerous insects such as wasps, scorpions, hornets etc. There are many countries, where the farmers are still using the traditional method of cattle to plough, traditional equipment. Some countries lack cold storage, food packaging and transportation which is a reason for food spoilage. Farmers of many countries face the biggest problem and that is, the low price of their agricultural or farm produce which lead them to severe poverty. In 2020, about 5579 Indian farmers suicide due to crop damage. The Farmers grow crops but unfortunately they do not have sufficient money to live a prosperous life. 

    Depending on the country, the government does many things for the farmers such as providing farming loans at a low rate of interest, free insurance scheme, seeds, pesticides and fertilizers etc. There are many organizations like The National FFA Organization”, 4-H, Rural Youth Europe etc. who teach agriculture education to the young people.

    Farmers are one of the most important parts of our society. They work hard to grow crops for us so that we don't have to go to bed hungry. Different countries celebrate “Farmers' Day” in different months of the year. America celebrates Farmer's Day every year on October 12. India celebrates this day on 23 December which is known as “Kisan Divas”.

    Farmers are the people who grow crops and raise animals. The farmers also produce raw materials, animal products and they work in dairy or poultry. The farmers work hard and spend several times growing crops to provide for our food. 

    The farmers have to manage their farms. Some farmers have small farms where they work independently and some have large farms where they work with their team of agricultural professionals.

    Farmer's job is very difficult and it requires agricultural knowledge. Farmers wake up early and go to their farm. They have to do common duties like planting, fertilising, harvesting, as well as feeding the animals. Farmers can become experts in various agricultural services like organic farming, flower farming, poultry farming, fish farming, cattle farming etc. The farmers use different types of equipment and tools like truck, tractor, plough, harvester, insecticide or herbicide sprayer, irrigation etc. A simple farming system consisting of crop rotation, seed saving, harvesting and burning. Agricultural products can be sold either at the market, or directly from the farm.

    Some people are hereditary farmers as their ancestors were farmers so they gain knowledge of farming from them. Since farming has become a huge business, there are many agricultural schools and colleges where one can learn agribusiness economics, soil science, animal science, agricultural management etc.
